Chinese Holidays
China has three 7-day holidays which may impact your products' manufacturing,
delivery in China, or your visit to China.
Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year (the end of January to the middle of
February)
Chinese New year falls on the first day of the first moon according to the traditional
Chinese lunar calendar. Most businesses closed seven days for the holiday.
The Chinese Lunar Calendar is based on the cycles of the moon. Due to this cyclical
dating, the beginning of the year can fall anywhere between late January and the
middle of February. In 2007 Chinese New Year falls on February 18.
International Labor Day (May 1 - May 7)
International Labor Day is one of the major public holidays in China. While no major
celebrations exist, workers usually organize their vacation trips during this time,
called one of the tourism golden weeks in China.
National Day (October 1 - October 7)
National Day is the anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China
in 1949. Celebrations usually take the form of parties in amusement parks by day
and fire-works and grand TV ensembles during the evening. It is one of the major
holidays in China. Sometimes the entire nation gets a week off.
